JULIEN BROCAL

JULIEN BROCAL

We love this dreamy, atmospheric film: The Gardener – Portrait of Julien Brocal. Brocal isn't a gardener at all, really; he's a rench composer, and a pianist whose debut recording of Chopin's Op 28 Preludes received excellent reviews back in January, and he will be performing as part of pause at La Donaira here in the Serranía de Ronda on August 18 and again, with Maria Joao Pires, on August 22. Mentored by Pires, Brocal is a founding member of the Partitura Movement, and resident at the Center for Arts, Belgais.

The Gardener, directed by Kathy Kasic, was filmed in the wintry surrounds of Tippet Rise Art Center in Montana, USA, against the backdrop of the Beartooth Mountains. Like La Donaira, Tippet Rise is a working farm with indoor and outdoor performance spaces, and a commitment to the arts, celebrating the concept that 'art, music, architecture, and nature are inextricably linked in the human experience, each making the others more powerful'.

Looking forward to seeing Julien Brocal . . . and perhaps Tippet Rise one day too.
