LA DONAIRA A PURE AWARDS 2018 WINNER
This year La Donaira has been honoured with a prestigious PURE Award for our work in the fields of Conservation and Sustainability.
Special attention was given to the Wild Honeybee Reserve we have set up in partnership with the Natural Beekeeping Trust to relocate wild honeybees to their mountain oak forest with over 20 custom designed tree hives.
As noted by the PURE Awards panel, “The aim is to restore the bees to their long lost vitality and build resistance to varroa, which wiped out populations across the planet. They have had visits and training from the NBT so the bees are kept safe, wild and chemical-free. This project is being presented as an internationally significant success story. La Donaira have also created a tour for their guests to inspire fresh thinking about the bee and its place in the world. Bees may be small, but our future depends on them.”
As is evident from previous entries, our commitment to restoring healthy ecosystems extends to sponsoring the the first international Learning From The Bees conference, held at the end of this month, as well as installing the ingenious “biodiversity boxes” designed by Paco Volantes — which house birds, bats, and insect pollinators all together in a sort of miniature wildlife apartment building hanging from the trees — throughout the farm and surrounding forests.
